Will The EcoHitch 306-X7391 Disable The Kick Sensor For The Liftgate Once Installed On 2026 Forester

Updated 09/08/2026 | Published 08/20/2026

Question:

Hi, I have a ‘26 Forester Wilderness. Do you know FOR SURE whether the Ecohitch allows for use of the rear gate sensor? Thanks

Hi Todd!

The EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 306-X7391 will definitely not negate that function on your new 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness. I have been doing this for over a decade now and I have never actually seen an aftermarket hitch completely block that feature.

However, you will need to kick on either side of the receiver tube to actuate it now. It will take a few times to get used to, but before long, it will be second nature.

What are you going to be using the hitch for once it's installed?

Have 2025 forester Touring. Hitch is nice. I installed the curt 4 pin trailer adapter works nice. The kick to open once hitch was installed is a PITA to find correct spot - you stand there with you leg waving and did not constantly work. we gave up and disabled it with dash button and use license plate button or flob.

@Daniel there are two buttons on tailgate One will open hatch it’s in middle above license under lip. Second is to right under lip - it used once Properly programmed to have a five digit code that will unlock car. Ask dealer or utube - works well.
