Is the SmartPlug RV/Marine Data Port Inlet Waterpoof?

Updated 02/20/2026 | Published 02/19/2026

Question:

Hello Do you make a waterproof cover for the smart plug? I’d like to use this on my Rv so how do I make it waterproof when camping

Hey Phyllis. The SmartPlug RV/Marine Data Port Inlet item # SM36MJ is indeed waterproof. It has a weatherproof seal around the base that protects the data ports. Where it connects to your RV will be protected by a foam gasket to keep moisture out. Additionally. the cover is made of stainless steel to prevent corrosion.

Do you use Starlink when you camp? What has you looking at installing a data port?

I love the smartplug. BUT, when installing, I highly suggest using a torque wrench when tightening the wire set screws. 14-20 inch pounds. (not Ft. lbs). They don't take much torque at all and will strip easily if you over tighten them causing heat buildup or possible fire (no different than any other loose electrical connection)

I have used this for the past 4 mos. with coaxial and ethernet connection for Starlink. Works great.

The only issue I had was the data port has to be in there correctly. Or it pulls out. Once I figured that out I have had no other issues. A feature they could add is an “outlet” at the base for the cable to feed through so you can close the cover completely.
