Can OEM Brake Controller of 2014 Ford F-350 be Replaced with Redarc Tow-Pro Link

Updated 02/26/2026 | Published 02/17/2026

Question:

I have a 2014 Ford F 350 with a factory ITBC installed. The factory unit will not stop the trailer like it should and I was wanting to know if I can install a Redarc Pro Tow Link or another version of a Redarc product to use as the trailer brake controller. If so, do I need to disable the ITBC when installing the other units. thank you

Hey Rick, the Redarc Tow Pro Link part # RED57AR will easily replace your ITBC in your 2014 Ford F-350 and it will work great. Now with that said usually weak trailer brakes are not the fault of the brake controller and instead it's wiring to the brakes or something mechanical like them being out of adjustment or a grease seal blew in the hub and now the assemblies and drums are covered in grease.

Are you absolutely sure the problem is the brake controller? Have you tried a different tow vehicle with your trailer by chance?

Thank you for the response. I will check the brakes to make sure they are adjusted correctly. Having self adjusting brakes I guess you still have to manually adjust. Rick Brown

@RickB Sometimes self adjusting ones can have issues. Are they new by chance? Did you burnish them in?

@JamesonC The trailer is a 2023 Cougar 5th wheel. I believe I did burnished them but it has been a while. I am planning on pulling the wheels to grease the bearings and will check the status of the brakes. Hopefully it will just be a simple adjustment.

@RickB Yeah hopefully a simple adjustment is all it needs. But definitely check to see if any grease from the hub got on the drum.
