Troubleshooting a Blinking Red Light on the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty RED82CR

Updated 02/19/2026 | Published 02/14/2026

Question:

Good morning I purchased your trailer brake system last year model Red82cr . I have had it for about a year now it has been working perfectly but this week while operating the unit has been blinking red or blank and when I press the button the brakes do operate . My question is could this be normal? While it was blinking I’m not sure if it feels likes it’s stoping . Thanks for any info on this.

Hey Doug welcome back! A blinking red light on the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty item # RED82CR is indicating a a voltage drop between the trailer ground and the vehicle ground so this is definitely not normal. Since it's blinking intermittently, I am going to go with a loose ground or corrosion on one of your 7-way connectors causing a loss in signal. I would not tow until you get that blinking red light to stop and it to return to blue. Or red and blue when you hit your brakes.

I recommend checking your 7-way connectors and cleaning them off if they're dirty. Then you'll want to go inside the cab of your Toyota and see if that white wire on your Redarc item # RED82CR has come loose. It'll need to be firmly attached to a clean piece of bare metal. If that checks out, you'll want to look at the grounding wire on your trailer and follow the same steps. It'll be the white wire that comes off of the 7-way connector.

What kind of trailer do you have and do you have a Al-Ko/iQ7 hydraulic brake system?
