Replacement for Atwood G6A-7 on 2001 Coachman Catalina

Updated 02/18/2026 | Published 02/14/2026

Question:

Hello! We have refurbished a 2001 Coachman Catalina trailer. The existing water heater is an Atwood G6A-7. We would like the option of electric/gas heat since we normally have electric hookup at the campsite. We saw the Dometic DMC53RR on your site. Is this the only option for a dual gas/electric water heater that will fit? We also saw you have the door adapter kit which we will need I guess. Our current opening is roughly 16.5 x 13. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hey Terry! The Dometic RV Water Heater # DMC53RR is the closest equivalent replacement to your Atwood G6A-7. This does have the door conversion kit, and the same 6 gallon tank you already have. It requires a cutout measuring 12-3/4" tall x 12-3/4" wide x 19-7/8" deep so double check your depth.

Where are you taking the Catalina next?

Thank you Robin! This is exactly the information we needed! We just completed it last season and can't wait to start back this year! We have several great state parks locally, so we'll be staying at those! We'll be ordering soon!
