Best Flat Tow Setup For 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor

Updated 02/16/2026 | Published 02/10/2026

Question:

Hello! I have a 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor R that Im setting up as a tow vehicle behind our diesel pusher air brakes. Im trying to put together my shopping list and decide the best combination of products to use. Keep in mind the Raptor is also a daily driver for me and I am trying to make the set-up as stealth and un-intrusive as possible, We already have a blue ox tow bar and safety cable. but need everything else. This Curt RVi4 is very appealing to me for a braking solution because of its simple setup and removability. It sounds like the Curt battery tender would be a logical addition to this kit because it integrates with the monitor. That being said, Im trying to figure out how to keep this unit powered. While it plugs into the 12v cigarette lighter, my understanding is that the outlet shuts off after a certain period of time - what is the recommended solution for this? Im also open to a list of recommended additional products that I need to finish the install. wiring harness, etc. keeping in mind the truck serves 98 of its time as a weekday driver and not as a towed vehicle and I want to minimize the permanentfoot modifications to it. Thank you!

Hey Kevin, you came to the right place. I can help with all of that. Ill provide a full parts list, then go over a few things. Here is what you will need to run your Blue Ox tow bar and RVI brake system on your Raptor:

- Blue Ox Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # BLU33FR

- Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles - 7-Way to 6-Way Coiled Adapter Cord # RM-15267

- Curt RVi Series 4 Portable Flat Tow Brake System - Wireless Monitor - Proportional # RVI44FR

- Curt RVi Series Towed Battery Charger+ for Flat Towing # RVI74FR

If the factory 12v outlet shuts off after while, the solution for that is to install the Curt RVi Series 12-Volt Outlet Kit for RVibrake # RVI37FR. It wires directly to the battery so you'll get constant power for your brake unit. The RVI unit is a solid choice. Like you said its easy to set up and remove so it won't get in the way of your daily driving. I think you'll really like how it all ties into the bullseye monitor too. Its a very user-friendly system.

Same with the base plate and wiring kit. Once everything is installed its easy to hook up and go, and the parts a minimally noticeable on the front of the truck. I included a picture showing what that will look like.

As far as other accessories, you may end up needing a drop hitch like part # BLU28XR to compensate for any height differences between the base plate arms and the hitch on your RV. Any difference of more than 3" requires a drop hitch. I also recommend getting a cover # BLU53QV and hitch lock # e98881 to protect your tow bar if you don't have one already.

Will you be installing this yourself? Or taking it to a shop?

I've linked a few install videos for you below. Let me know if there is anything else I can do!

I just ran a wire from my truck battery to another cigarette outlet I installed under the dash (or anywhere out of the way). I also installed a charging circuit that runs off the 7-pin connector. I use wireless trailer tail lights, so I didn't have to do any rewiring to my truck. But with all that said, I really do not care for my Curt RVi4 with my F-350 crew cab, long bed 4X4 diesel Platinum: the brake system does not seem to do much; it does not engage at all unless I really hit the brakes. It is not a really big deal for me, as my Super C has a 40k-pound towing capacity. But if you are towing with something that is less heavy-duty, you may want to look at other systems. I hope this helps, just a little.

@Bob Hey Bob, really appreciate you sharing your setup and experience. With a big F-350 like yours, I can see how the RV4 might feel a little light unless you’re really on the brakes. Those systems are designed to be more proportional and smooth, so on a heavy-duty truck they sometimes don’t feel super aggressive. Thanks again for the honest feedback, that kind of real-world input helps other folks figure out what’s going to work best for their setup.

@JesseM The thing is I can NOT figure out how to adjust the sensitivity. I have it set to "full-size truck" and set to vacuum. I'm not sure that is the correct setting for my truck, as I could not find anything about it. But if you have suggestions, I would be extremely grateful. I can NOT find any good information on any website, yours, Curt's, or any site. Thank you! Bob

@Bob Hey Bob, it sounds like you do have the right settings selected. The "full size truck" setting is the highest setting and will give you the most braking power of all the settings they offer. Your truck does have vacuum brakes so that is the correct setting too. They also have a setting for normal or panic only braking. Make sure yours is set to normal.
