How Should the Power Mountain Tall Boy Jack Be Used If You have Torsion Axles?

Question:

I have a 2023 Forest River 2608bs Rockwood travel trailer. I recently bought a Power Mountain Tall Boy jack in case I ever had a flat tire. It has torsion axles so what is the proper placement of the jack? I read never to jack on the axle? Thanks, Charles

Hi Charles,

The Power Mountain Tall Boy Jack part # PM34FR is designed to be used with the axle or with the frame. Since you have torsion axles, you'll want to jack your trailer up by the frame as jacking it up by the axle could bend the components. You'll want to use the main steel frame rail running down the side of the trailer and put the jack on the frame rail in front of or directly behind the tire.

Because this jack can be used for the axle or the frame, there are different saddles for it. You'll need to switch over to the flat frame saddle and adjust the height with the extension tubes so that the flat saddle is an inch or two below the frame. Once you've secured the jack and trailer, you can lift the trailer with the jack.

Charles, I would always suggest frame in raising your vehicle unless the vehicle manufactures specs indicate otherwise. I can tell you the Tallboy product is amazing. Well built with height alternatives and an array of attachments I haven’t seen on more expensive products.

Hey good afternoon. You bought an awesome bottle jack, I just bought mine two months ago cuz I never actually had to change a tire on my 2608 and glad I didn't have to cuz I didn't have the right gear. But this bottle jack definitely set it up on the frame just in front of the torsion actual setup. It'll work great for you. Basically you're going to use the shortest extension slide it under there and crank it up and you're good. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or issues. Hey I forgot to add in there, you will need to use like a 2x4 2x6 or a 2x8 underneath the jack to get it up just enough to slide the tire on and off. I tried every combination of post and it just didn't work. 2x6 is the best
