Question:

Do these ramps lock when they’re folded up, or do I need straps or pins to keep them from moving? trailer is about 5 feet wide. thx

Hey Brian, the ramps automatically latch when you fold them straight up into the vertical position. On a 5 foot wide trailer using # e37XV or # e47XV, that latch holds the ramps upright without straps, pins, or extra steps. They stay locked in place until you intentionally release them.

There’s also an optional anti-rattle adjustment knob you can tighten to reduce movement on rough roads, but the latch itself is what secures the ramps and the knob is there just to fine tune any wobble.

Do you know what length ramps you want? If you have a low deck, then you may be able to get by with the 5 foot ramps # e37XV. If your trailer isn't real low but you do have a low clearance car / vehicle, then I'd opt for the 6 foot ramps # e47XV for a smoother and safer approach so you don't bottom out.

would these work on an aluminum car hauler, or do they need a steel frame?

@Tom Good question, Tom. The RapidRamps kits are designed to bolt through a wood trailer deck, using backing plates underneath for strength. As long as your aluminum car hauler has a wood deck surface at the rear, you’re good to go. If it’s all aluminum with no wood at the mounting point, these wouldn’t be the right match without modifications and I'm not even sure if anything is on the market anywhere for an all aluminum setup without major fabrication.
