Looking For Bike Rack For Transporting Two Beach Cruiser Bikes
Updated 01/15/2026 | Published 01/14/2026 >
Question:
Hi, Im looking for a bike rack for transporting 2 bikes that weigh a total of 85 lbs they are cruiser / beach bikes. I am on a budget so looking for the most economical, safe and easy solution. I would install a hitch and get a hitch mount rack if that is the best solution. I would also get a 3 bike rack if necessary to hold the weight. Please send your recommendations. Thank you. Sincerely, Scott Moyer

Hello again, Scott. So yes, a hitch mounted rack is definitely the way to go if you need to carry a few beach cruiser style bikes. We do have a solid 2-bike option that will work well for that. Here is what I recommend:
- Hollywood Racks Trail Rider Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Frame Mount # HR200Z
This rack has a capacity of 90 lbs total or 45 lbs per bike, so it'll handle the cruiser bikes without any flexing or excessive rattling. It has ratcheting hooks that attach to the bike frame, and they can accommodate standard and step-thru frames. It'll accommodate really any bike that weighs less than 45 lbs, has a wheelbase less than 60", and tires 3" wide or less. As long as your bike meets these criteria, you can be sure the rack will work well for you. Also the price isn't too crazy either compared to other racks that would meet your needs.
The picture I included shows the # HR200Z rack holding an alternative frame bike, and as you can see it works great.

I have only good things to say about this bike rack. It is fairly light and easy to place in the hitch receiver. I put a hitch on my camper rear bumper so I can haul bikes on it. I also have a hitch on my pickup so I can take bikes where ever I want to ride. The rack itself was easy to set up to haul each bike securely, and I have never had a problem. Also what is really nice is that all the critical parts have locks that prevent tampering. The only problem I've experienced is one of the Velcro straps tore in cold temperatures.

This rack is fairly light, I would say 85 lbs would be about the limit, I would avoid rough roads and bumps. This rack is highly adjustable for size.I have been happy with mine, good value for the money. John
