Can You Install A Macerator Toilet In A Stationary RV With A Septic System?

Updated 01/21/2026 | Published 01/09/2026

Question:

I’m interested in installing a macerator toilet in my 2015 Redwood 38GK. I live in it full time and is stationary. I’m interested because I’m tired of the black tank routine. I have my own septic system. I’m in hopes that I would be able to leave the black tank open all the time with this system. Your thoughts and product info on this would be very much appreciated. Thanks, Robert Burns

Hello Robert, thanks for reaching out.

Yes, a macerator toilet like the Seaflo Raw Water Electric Marine Toilet # SE72MR can be a good option for your setup since you are stationary and connected to your own septic system. Many full-time RVers in similar situations choose a macerator toilet to reduce reliance on the black tank routine.

That said, even with a macerator toilet, it is not recommended to leave the black tank valve open at all times. When liquids are allowed to drain continuously, solids can get left behind, and nobody wants to discover they have created a long-term permanent poop pile problem. Keeping the valve closed and dumping as needed is what we typically recommend. If you do leave the valve open just make sure you use lots of extra water when flushing. That'll help keep things moving along and help to prevent buildup.

It is also important to note that macerator toilets use electric power and raw water for flushing, so you will want to ensure you have a reliable power source and adequate water pressure available.

For fitment, the # SE72MR measures 18-3/4 inches tall, 14 inches wide, and 17-1/4 inches deep, so as long as you have sufficient space and access for plumbing and wiring, installation should be straightforward.

Thanks Jesse, would you think this would be something I could do myself? Does that Seaflo connect directly into the toilet flange? Will it work off of city water pressure? Thanks Robert Burns

@RobertB Hey Robert! Yes it connects to the toilet flange and it will work off city water pressure. As far as installation it really depends on experience and skill level. If you are handy and familiar with working on campers and with plumbing you should be able to get it done.
