Question:
Hello, I’m looking for a hitch lock for a bike rack with a pin diameter of 3/8”. I see the Kuat lock HL1 stating it has a 3/8” diameter. Can you confirm that the pin is actually 3/8” and is there any other locks you carry similar to it?

Hey Joel, I can confirm for you that the diameter of the Kuat Hitch Lock part # HL1 is 3/8 inch. This is not a very common diameter pin lock so this would be your best and only option.

I used this with a Kuat NV 2.0 bike rack that has the kuat 1-1/4" hitch tube. This pin, along with Kuat's 2" adapter block, allows me to use their 1.25" tube in a 2" receiver. This combination causes the pin hole in the 2" receiver to be slightly off center so that only a 3/8' pin will fit thru, rather than a 5/8"pin. I also use the bike rack on another car with a 1.25" receiver. On that car, I use Kuat's 5/8" lock pin. I had both pins keyed with the same code so I could use only one set of keys as I move the rack from one car to the other.

I bought one of these Kuat locks and I’m pleased with it. I use it with a Kuat rack and had to buy it because I bought the rack used and it didn’t have a lock.
