Issue Having To Turn The Gain All The Way Up On My Brake Controller For Brakes To Engage
Updated 12/12/2025 | Published 12/09/2025 >
Question:
2005 Weekend Warrior - FS2300 - Toy Hauler I had to replace the magnetic operators on the drum brakes, because the wires were broken off. With the new operators, I have to turn the gain all the way up on the brake controller for the brakes to give even a little tug when the brakes are applied. What could possibly be the problem ? Thank You !!

Hey Harold,
There are a few different causes of that issue. Since you just replaced the magnets I am going to guess that it is an issue of improper adjustment of the brakes. You are most likely going to need to re adjust those brakes manually, or if they are self adjust needed to get them going again. I have attached an article showing step by step how to adjust your brakes.
Since your brake controller was working before, I am going to eliminate the chance of a faulty controller and say you just simply need to re adjust those brakes to get them working properly. If this does not work let me know and I can continue to trouble shoot for you.
