2025 Silverado 2500 Feels Sloppy When Towing Car Hauler - Back End Dips And Is Less Stable

Updated 12/15/2025 | Published 12/09/2025

Question:

My 2025 Silverado 2500 feels sloppy in the rear when I haul my car trailer. The back end dips and the truck feels less stable. Would airbags help?

Good morning Ramon! Ahh yes, that rear squat is taking stability away, and airbags are exactly what you want. The Ride-Rite # F64XV lets you bump up the pressure until the rear returns to level, which keeps your suspension travel where it should be and reduces sway you feel through the seat.

Being able to adjust pressure from your phone makes it super easy to load up, stand at the coupler, and tune the truck in real time.

There are also "set it and forget" products like Timbren jounce springs # TGMRTT35D, but they aren't adjustable and you'll definitely feel a rougher ride when not towing anything.

What’s the tongue weight on your car trailer?

Thanks Andrew. My car hauler’s tongue weight is probably around 900–1,000 lbs. Should I expect these to help with braking too, or just stability?

@Ramon Absolutely; once the # F64XV levels the truck back out, you’ll notice better braking feel along with the stability improvement. When the rear sags, it lifts a little weight off the front axle, which makes the steering feel loose and the braking feel softer. Leveling the truck with airbags puts that weight back where it belongs so the front brakes can do their job.
