What Does Fogatti InstaShower FG29FR Do When In Frost Protection Mode?

Updated 12/09/2025 | Published 12/05/2025

Question:

Hi, our Fugatti 7 threw an FD frost protection error code. We are turning it off until the temp comes back up. I was wondering if when displaying this code what the unit does to protect itself? Do you have any suggestions for insulating around this unit? We are in southern NM living in our RV so we cant winterize. It only gets below freezing once in a while. This caught us by surprise. Thanks Sophia

Hello Sophia, thanks for reaching out. Yes so the Fogatti InstaShower 7 RV Tankless Water Heater # FG29FR will go into frost protection mode anytime the temp drops below 43 degrees. The unit actually has a small internal heating element that kicks on to warm the heat exchanger and internal water passages.

As far as insulating the water heater, a few things come to mind. You will want to make sure it stays ventilated. You could try using some foam board insulation or other insulation to the walls of the heater bay. That way you could insulate the unit without choking the unit.

Sometimes there are gaps or openings inside the heater bay, and sealing those up could help keep cols air away from the unit.

Pipe wrap or insulation will help too if there is any exposed pipe near the water heater.

I actually have an outdoor water connection at my house and when we first moved in, I had problems with is freezing. I built a wooden box around it with deck boards and put foam board insulation inside the box. When it gets cold, I plug in an electric pipe wrap just to keep things above freezing. That setup has worked perfectly, and it hasn't frozen up since. We are in Missouri so winter is unpredictable, but it can get very cold for extended periods.

How cold is it where y'all are now?

Hey Jesse, Thanks for all the info. It's great to know the Fugatti will take care of itself! We do have gaps and openings in the heater bay, your insulation ideas are great thanks for the tip. We are flirting with high 20s low 30s at dawn in southern NM, with nice days Temps of 40s and 50s. Thanks for your help! Sophia

@SophiaF You’re very welcome, Sophia! Glad the info helped and that the insulation tips will come in handy! With temps just dipping into the 20s and 30s, the Fogatti’s freeze protection plus sealing up those gaps should keep things running smoothly. Enjoy those sunny New Mexico days, and don’t hesitate to reach out if anything else comes up!
