Recommended Goosebox for a Rhino Pin Box

Updated 11/19/2025 | Published 11/16/2025

Question:

Looking at a Reese Goose box for a 2018 Ram 3500 short bed. I already use a Andersen hitch so familiar with turning restrictions. Wondering the horizontal measurement from the center of pin to the first hole closest to the pin? Attached is a photo of my pin box label. Please advise what Reese part is needed.

Hey Lon, thanks for the pictures! Your 5th wheel trailer has a Rhino pin box. To replace it with a Reese Goosebox, you will need the Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter item # RP85FR. From the bolt holes to the center of the ball connection is 20-1/4" tall. The ball connection is 18" forward of the first set of bolt holes. I attached a diagram below that's got a few other measurements that may be helpful.

Please note you will also need the Reese Safety Chain Kit with Clevis Hooks item # RP49151. Safety chains are required for gooseneck connections and they are not included with the pin boxes.

Does your Ram 3500 have the factory puck system?

I have the B&W turnover ball in my truck. I'm trying to determine if I'm gaining a few inches of clearance from the cab and still not crowding the tailgate or side rails. Any other thoughts?

@Lon You can use the 4" Offset Ball item # BWGNXA4085, with your Turnoverball item # BWGNRK1314 gooseneck hitch, to get some extra clearance between the cab and the nose of your trailer. It'll push your gooseneck ball back 4". The top of the gooseneck ball will be right below 6" above the floor of your bed.
