Can 12V Devices Be Powered Directly From Go Power RV Converter

Updated 11/30/2025 | Published 11/15/2025

Question:

Go Power RV Converter and Smart Battery Charger - 12V - 75 Amp I want to use it to power 12vdc devices Aloneinch Not batteries Just it and the sliders, or it and the leveling jacks. Will that confuse it? I want to start the generator, this device on the generator, this device power the RV leveling jacks, then this device powering the sliders. NO connection to the batteries. Thoughts?

Hey Joe! The # 34266170 will get confused if you're not using a battery. Even without the smart charging, converters like these really aren't designed for that kind of use. When you have a 12V battery it acts as a buffer between the converter and your devices. Without that buffer, you're putting strain on the converter and may wear it out, along with your jack and slide-out motors, faster. It would be best to add in at least a single 12V battery to prevent any issues.

Do you have a product that can handle such a load? Or do I just over size it to make sure it doesn't under power the slides?

@JoeM I mean sure, you can oversize it but I would still say add in a battery. RV converters simply aren't designed to straight up power devices like that. I don't think you would be happy if you wore out the converter or had to replace slide/leveling motors because you didn't want to add in that buffer. You're talking about additional costs and a major pain potentially to find those parts. If the concern is where to store the battery then I would get something that is lithium compatible like # PD89RR so you can store the battery inside.

@RobinH What about this unit? Progressive Dynamics 9300 Series RV Converter Charger - 12V - 80A Part Number: PD89RR Your webpage says it has a "No Battery Mode Switch". Would it be better for this task? Sorry to keep asking questions but I didn't see a manual for it to download.

@JoeM sure if you run it through a DC distribution board.
