What Does the 75 AMP Go Power RV Converter and Smart Battery Charger Plug Into?

Updated 06/11/2025 | Published 06/04/2025

Question:

Does the 12 V - 75 amp Go Power RV Converter with Smart Battery Charger require an AC plug that is on a 20 amp single service wire and breaker? I was considering the Go power RV power converter 34266912 , 100 amp version but on the installation video it was mentioned that the tech had to rewire a 20 amp service to plug in the 100amp unit. Could not use the 15 amp service. I have a 2018 Heartland Big Horn 3720RS fifth wheel. The current converter is a Progressive Dynamics Inteli - Power PD9100/9200 series producing 80 amps. I do not know what size of a circuit the PD9100/9200 is plugged into and the manual does not state what kind of plug is needed. Instead of having to rewire to get a 20 amp single service line with 20 amp breaker, do I think I should just stick with an 80 amp unit and go with the PD 9380? Does the PD 9380 have the same line requirements and the PD 9100/9200? Thanks,

Hey Dave. The Go Power RV Converter and Smart Battery Charger - 12V - 75 Amp item # 34266170 does require a 120 V 3 wire grounded source for the AC plug, which is typically a dedicated 20 amp single service breaker.

The Progressive Dynamics 9300 Series RV Converter Charger item # PD89RR also requires plugging into a dedicated 20 amp circuit. However, this one requires a different outlet, NEMA 5-20R, to plug into.

From what I could find online your 80 amp Progressive Dynamics Inteli - Power PD9100/9200 series also connects to a dedicated 20 amp circuit.

All three of the converter chargers require an input of 105-130 VAC, I recommend having an electrician verify what your current converter is plugged into before proceeding with replacing it.

Out of the three, I would go with the The Progressive Dynamics 9300 Series RV Converter Charger item # PD89RR because it's also compatible with Lithium batteries.

Why are you wanting to replace your converter charger?

Jerred, I am replacing it because it will not keep my AGM batteries charged. I am having an RV Mobile Tech come and check it out next week sometime. Lithium batteries are too expensive for my budget, so I thought I would go with a 100 amp converter since I have a residential refrigerator in the coach that pulls on batteries when we are traveling from place to place. Am I making a mistake not using lithium batteries?

@Dave No, not at all Dave. If your budget doesn't support them right now I wouldn't worry about it. My recommendation to go with the Progressive Dynamics 9300 Series RV Converter Charger item # PD89RR was based on flexibility to expand to a lithium system down the road. The prices were comparable and so were the electrical and spacing requirements.
