Can The WFCO WF56FR 100A Converter Charge A Large Lithium Bank Fast With Generator?

Published 02/17/2026

Question:

Can the WF56FR 100A charge a large lithium bank faster with my Honda 2000 generator powering it? My lower amp unit doesn't charge as fast and I thought the generator was the issue at first. Upgraded generators (which was needed anyways) and it still isn't charging batteries fast enough.

Good afternoon Rob.

Yes, that’s exactly where the 100A WFCO Converter # WF56FR shines.

In lithium mode, it boosts to 14.6V DC and allows maximum current flow during Charge Mode. That means shorter generator runtime - which is ideal with your new generator.

Just keep in mind:

-It requires a 20A AC circuit from the shore power to the converter/charger
-It benefits from short, heavy-gauge DC wiring no smaller than 3 gauge from charger to battery
-Solar running simultaneously can compete during bulk charging

If you’re running 300–400Ah lithium, 100A makes sense. If it’s just 100Ah, 55A unit like # WF38FR may already be plenty.

How many amp-hours total do you have in your battery bank? And what amp rating is your current converter/charger?

I have 3 100ah 12v batteries wired in parallel = 300ah total. Current charger is 45a so 55a would likely help. Might go with the 100a if I can get the wiring taken care of. thanks for the help andrew.

@Rob Nice, that's a decent battery setup for sure! If your old unit isn't failing but you just want faster charging, I would highly recommend going with the 100a setup. Another thing to do is maybe add a universal solar kit like # Rich Solar RV Solar Charging Kit w/ 1 Panel - 12V - 200 Watts # RS37VR to keep the batteries topped off when not hooked up to a generator.
