Flat Tow Wiring and Trailer Wiring for a Jeep Grand Cherokee 2024 XE Hybrid

Updated 11/04/2025 | Published 09/03/2025

Question:

Hi, I have a Jeep grand cherokee 2024 XE Hybrid It has a hitch but no connection for the trailer. I was wondering what the converter box does and why can I not just tap into the existing wires with a T split. Another problem I have that we tow the vehicle and have to wire that also. I need the trailer plug for my bike rack which has its own lighting Jeep lights are not visible when the bikes are on

Thanks for your question, Erald.

The converter box pretty much dumbs down the Jeeps wiring when towing a trailer. Wiring on a trailer is pretty basic compared to how the wiring is on a newer vehicle. The best route to have both would be to get Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C27BR for the trailer wiring. If your Jeep has the ParkSense then you would want to get the Roadmaster Smart Diode Kit for Variable Voltage LED Tail Lights part # RM47ZR. If you do NOT have the ParkSense then you would want to get Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-15267.

You mentioned wiring the harnesses together, you wouldn't be able to do that.

Part # C27BR supplies signals to a trailer from the Jeep.
Part # RM47ZR receives a signal from the RV to the Jeep.

There isn't a way to have a signal from the RV to the Jeep then from the Jeep to the trailer when needed all in one harness. You also can't have two t-harnesses plugged in at the same time.

Let me know if you have any additional questions about flat towing!
