How Does the Hopkins Agility Trailer Brake Controller Know How Hard to Brake?
Updated 09/12/2025 | Published 08/17/2025 >
Question:
I just purchased the hopkins agility brake controller. It claims that it uses proportional technology, however the only signal wire it tells me to tap into is the brake lamp wire, which the voltage for is either on/off on my 1997 c1500. So how is it proportional if it doesnt know how hard im pressing the brakes?

Hey Zach. The Hopkins Agility Trailer Brake Controller HM47295 has an internal inertia sensor that can tell what force your truck is using to stop. This is why it has to be mounted at a specific angle.

Hey Zach, did the Hopkins Agility Brake Controller work out for you with your truck? I'm curious to know if the internal inertia sensor provided the proportional braking you were looking for. Your experience could really help others with similar setups.
