How to Find Correct Suspension Hardware Upgrade Kit for Tandem Axle Trailer

Updated 08/26/2025 | Published 08/05/2025

Question:

Hello im going to upgrade my 25 tandem axle rv to the wet bolts, can you tell me how im going to measure these. Do I measure the TOTAL length of bolts including head or do I just measure from in back of the bolt head of my old shackle bolts. I may even upgrade the shackle straps at the same time.

Hey John, I'd be happy to help you out!

You'll likely need the MORryde Kit # MR46ZR that comes with 2-1/4" long shackle straps, or the Kit # MR76ZR that comes with 3-1/8" long shackle straps, but it would be a good idea to double check prior to ordering. To measure the suspension bolts, you'll measure from the back of the head to the end of the bolt where the threads are.

If your trailer uses standard 9/16" diameter suspension bolts then the bolts in these kits will work. When it comes to matching the shackle strap length, all you have to do is measure center bolt hole to center bolt hole and that will tell you which replacement kit is correct.

Which kit looks like it will match better? I really like the MORryde kits because they have 1/2" thick shackle straps which resist wear and tear MUCH better than standard straps.

So if I order the MR46ZR why does it come with the 2 different size shackle bolts? I see in the description there's 3 3/8" and 2 7/8. Its in the description of the MR46ZR

@JohnJ The 2-7/8" bolts are for the shackles and the 3-3/8" bolts are for the hangers.

Im going to order mr46zr shackle kit. Do you guys send a little longer wet bolts to compensate with the thicker shackle straps? Since the factory ones are only 1/2 the thickness. Also, im going to use the wet bolt kit with my original equilizer, this kit is compatible with the original equilizer correct? One last question. Can these be ordered on Amazon with the same warranty/ customer service as ordering them directly from Etrailer?

@JohnJ The wet bolts that come with this kit will be able to accommodate the thicker shackle straps, yes. Amazon is a completely different distributor than us, so the customer service will be different than ours, but the warranty is done with MORryde so you'd get the same 1-year warranty. I've dealt with Amazon customer service before and while the return process is hard to beat, nobody at Amazon is going to know the products like we do here at etrailer. We know we can't compete with Amazon on everything, so we strive to set ourselves apart with a deeper understanding of the products we carry, and an interaction with a human for that technical knowledge as well.

@JonGone last thing is I seen in the reviews 1 person that the bronze bushings were magnetic( He showed the bushings stuck to the magnet) which means their steel, is this correct? Won't steel on steel wear out components FAST?

@John I can reach out to MORryde about the bronze bushings if you'd like, but I wasn't able to find the review you mentioned about it being magnetic. Regardless, it is a metal-on-metal situation, but you'll be filling that area with grease (which is one reason why the zerk fitting is on the wet bolts) so the metals won't be in direct contact. It's a lot like your wheel bearings; without grease those suckers will get super hot really fast because of the friction, but if they're properly maintained and greased then they will last you a long time.
