Can The etrailer Anti Rattle Device e38FV Be Used On A 2026 Honda Pilot OEM Hitch?

Updated 08/04/2025 | Published 07/20/2025

Question:

I have a 2026 Honda Passport RTL Towing. I am interested in your e38FV anti rattle hitch product. No pictures show this unit installed with safety chains attached to their safety rings. Could the chains possibly knock your unit off? What are the outside dimensions of this unit? I am not sure if the attachment ears will get a good bite behind the metal ring around the hitch. Is the tightening screw a fine thread and not easily loosened? Thank you for your answers. Sincerely

Hi Irwin!

The etrailer anti-rattle device # e38FV outside edge measures 3-7/8" H x 4-1/2" L x 5/8" W. Little surprised we don't have any picture of this installed with safety chains hooked up (I will see about getting that added to the page, it would be good to see), but I don't see any way for safety chains to knock it off. This will install from the bottom of the hitch receiver, so safety chains would technically pull this up if they were ever engaged in a disconnection event.

The attachment ears/brackets are designed to clamp on to that metal ring around the receiver opening and I have not had anyone come back saying it wasn't sufficient for the hitch on your 2026 Honda Passport. The tightening bolt does have fine threads as well, so it does not easily loosen or back out. When it's tight, it's tight.

What are you planning on using this for on your Honda Pilot?

Lazer S. Thank you for your reply to my questions I would be using it on my 2026 Honda Passport. I am having ball mount issues with the opening of the tailgate to trailer front crank/wheel clearance. I have made a wooden copy of the e38FV to see how it would work in my situation. At this stage it is questionable. Need to have the e38FV in hand for actual fitment. Must finalize the ball mount first Looks like a 13" shaft may do the trick as an 11.5" one only gave me 1/4" clearance on level ground. Thanks for your information. Irwin Staples

@IrwinS You're welcome! We do have some pretty long ball mounts, but do you know how much rise you need? Typical trailer is 18" from the ground to the bottom of the coupler and hitch height is measured to the inside top of the receiver. If you can get me the hitch measurement, I can definitely find you something! If you don't think our anti rattle device will work for you, I have always been a fan of the Roadmaster # RM-062. It's the embodiment of the KISS Principal (Keep It Simple, Stupid) as it's literally a u-bolt and a bar going across it. May be better in your case.

@LazThanks for your suggestions. I have a Curt 6" rise, 13" shaft on order. The # RM-062 is for a 2 1/2" receiver and mine is a 2" receiver. Anyhow for now I have to clear the front trailer jack with the tailgate of the 2026 Passport. Irwin

@IrwinS That Curt was actually the one I was thinking. : ) And I meant the include the # RM-061 for the 2" hitch, sorry about that. Let me know if there is anything else you need and if that Curt works. I think it will.
