What Toilet Will Work in My Bathroom that is 36" by 24"? What Flange do I Need for 4 1/2" hole?

Updated 08/15/2025 | Published 07/20/2025

Question:

I want to install a toilet in my tiny trailer bathroom. It measures only 24inch x 36. There is a hole in the floor but no existing hardware - I am not sure what the previous owners did with it! The hole is 4.5inch in diameter and from the 24inch wall to the center is 12. However, from the 36inch wall to the center of the hole is only 6. I am worried that if I use the existing hole the toilet will be too close to the 36inch long wall. Will this toilet or another work, or will I need to create a more centered hole? Would I need additional parts to install it?

Hello again Kate,

I wonder if the previous owner used a cassette toilet like the Thetford C402C Cassette Toilet - Internal Water Supply - Electric Flush - Right Hand Access # TH39UE seeing how they covered up the hole.

I think the Lippert Flow Max Full-Timer RV Toilet - Standard Height - Elongated Seat - White Ceramic # LC67AF that you were looking at is a great option. It measures perfectly for the 12" spacing to the middle of the hole. The hole needs to be 12" from the 24" wall as the back of the toilet will go up against that wall.

You will need to install a new toilet flange, the Replacement RV Toilet Floor Flange - 3" FPT # T05-0784 is going to be your best fit with the mounting holes being 5 1/2" apart, you will want to pair it with the Valterra RV Toilet Floor Gasket with Hold Down Bolts # Q23653VP.

Did they get rid of the black tank since they didn't have toilet?

Hey Kate, Did you decide to go with the Lippert Flow Max RV Toilet, or are you considering a different option? I'm curious to know how the installation went and if you had to make any adjustments to the existing hole. Let me know how it turned out, as it could really help others in a similar situation!
