Replacement 3,500 lb Disc Brake Kit for a 2004 Ranger Boat Trailer

Updated 07/09/2025 | Published 07/06/2025

Question:

I have a 2004 Ranger Trail boat trailer. I am looking to replace the rotor, hub, bearings and seals. I measured the rotor at 9.75 and there are 5 lugs. I also have oil bath hubs. The fill hole for the bearing oil is a threaded hole with a plug on the nose part of the hub that protrudes from the center. I noticed on the Part Number: K08-435-05 there is no threaded hole. Is there a hub with the fill hole? I did see Kodiak XL ProLube Kit for for 5,200-lb to 6,000-lb Axles. I think I have Dexter 3500 lb axles and I have the DB-35 disc brakes. Not sure the Kodiak system will work. If you would like, I can send you some pics of my hub and oil bath hubs. Thanks

**UPDATE WITH KIT # DX35ER IN COMMENT SECTION BELOW**

Hey Richard, thanks for reaching out!

It sounds like you're needing the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # KOD77FR which comes with new hubs/rotors, matching calipers, and the oil bath parts.

In order to fill the oil hubs you'll have to remove the black plug from the cap, but that's pretty standard for oil bath kits.

Does this look like a good replacement to you?

Just one question. Per the video it says I should have an actuator and brake lines rated at 1500 PSI or above. Would this be marked on the master cylinder or brake lines on my trailer?

The Kodiak set will not work. The inner bearing and outer bearing diameters from my hub are the same,1.378 inches. Looks like I will have to order the replacement rotor/hub assembly and drill and tap a fill hole unless the Kodiak oil bath kit will fit the hub. Thanks for your help.

@RichardL Basically, if you have disc brakes your actuator will be rated for these disc brakes - it should be labeled on the actuator though.

@RichardL The bearing L68149 is what has the 1.378" inner diameter, and none of our hub kits fit a straight axle with that bearing. The DB-35 part number you gave me is for the caliper only, so I don't have a way to look up your hub number. If you can let me know what the hub number is, I can see if Dexter Axle still has it or not.
