Disc Brakes

More and more people are switching their trailers over to disc brakes, and with good reason. Disc brakes deliver consistent braking - even at highway speeds - unlike drum brakes, which often show a substantial drop in braking torque at higher speeds. In addition, disc brakes offer a substantially shorter stopping distance than drum brakes. Disc brake calipers have only one moving part, rather than the many found in drum brakes. This means that there are fewer parts to maintain, fewer parts to get damaged and fewer parts to have to repair or replace, thus reducing maintenance costs.

Integral Hub-and-Rotor Assemblies

The integral hub-and-rotor is made from cast iron, matching SAE specifications. Cast iron is ideal for high-temperature operations and offers a favorable friction coefficient to ensure adequate stopping power. Kodiak's rotors are vented to effectively dissipate heat, dramatically reducing the incidence of heat-related damage. Furthermore, machined disc brakes minimize the chance of contamination between the hub and rotor, resulting in excellent performance and long life.

Calipers

Kodiak calipers are constructed of cast iron to prevent flexing. Less flex means more braking torque, resulting in smooth, even braking every time. The corrosion-resistant stainless steel piston is 30 percent larger than standard pistons, ensuring shorter stopping distance and increased torque. In addition, the unique low-drag design of Kodiak's calipers allows the piston to retract farther than in most standard models, giving you a cooler-running brake.

Mounting Brackets

Designed for axles with 4-bolt brake flange configurations, the included mounting brackets are made of heavy-duty ductile iron that is embossed to provide additional threading for guide bolts. The added thread strength ensures a tighter, more secure connection between the caliper and bracket. Another unique feature of Kodiak's brackets is the side-support angle, which guarantees that the load is carried by the bracket, rather than the bolts.

Product is excellent but damaged during shipping due to improper packing.
Four of these heavy rotors loosely placed in a box destroyed the boxes as in photo. Damage did not prevent us from using the product but someone else may have asked for a replacement.

by:

i accidentally ordered the wrong part (a rotor and not the hub-rotor assembly, but they allowed me to return it and order the correct one with no problem. This one is new and just what I needed.

by:

Surprisingly the product made it looking flawless, the box that housed it barely held on long enough to make the journey, not your fault, no wood packed inside to keep rotor from busting out + ups shipping (nuff said), anyways happy customer great product thanks.

by:

High-quality disc hub, nice to have the races pre-installed.

Hub was busting out of its box by the time it got to me, luckily did not damage anything else inside the larger shipping box. Heavy items like this need to be packed properly, not just chucked into a larger box.

by:

Highly recommend the Kodiak line. etrailer had the best price and type of service with free shipping on orders over $99. My parts were at my house three days after I ordered. etrailer is top notch!

by:

Product arrived on time and package very well outside box. The rotor boxes are both torn and no harm done. Will definitely buy it again in the future. Thank you.

Still good and work as intended!

by:

I must a recieved one hub/rotor that was slightly manufactured incorrectly. The rear seal would fail no matter what I did. I contacted etrailer for a replacement part and they shipped it out right away. The boating season is winding down and we love the water so it was great. Only complaint I have is I have to pay shipping to return the part that was faulty. I don't think that is right.

by:

After installation, I towed my 6000 lb. boat 1500 miles with no problems, and the brakes worked great!

by:

I ordered a (difficult to find) trailer wheel hub & a pair of Bearing Buddies to match. I paid only for standard shipping but they arrived promptly in 2 days.
The items were safely packaged and appear to be of good quality!
I recommend eTrailer as a reliable source for parts!

by:

This disc brake system from Kodiak sure makes conversion from drums trouble free. Also a great way to add brakes to an axle without brakes.

by:

The whole experience was a positive one with great prices, fast shipping and super communication. Look forward for future business with the company. Gene

Thank you for the followup they are still doing fine.

by:

The product was just was expected from a known manufacturer..but the customer service was above 5 Stars...somehow the package was lost by the shipping company ...I called Pat C when the package did not arrive...within in minutes she had me in touch with the shipping company ...I guess the company could not find the package because within a few days Etrailer informed me they were shipping another set of rotors...no charge for anything. To be honest the rotors could have been bought anywhere so the reason I've used etrailer for the last couple of years is the value of the products and the exceptional customer service ...one of the few companies that still believe in "the customer comes first "

by:

Great weight to these rotors and I like that the bearing races are already pressed in, it was a quick swap and definitely a quality item. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that I'm not terribly impressed with the e-coating. I saw some light rust in the vents less than a week after installed the rotors before I even finished putting the calipers and pads on (aka - I hadn't even used them yet) Probably fine for most applications, but I have a boat trailer that goes in salt water a few times a year and I wish I went with the stainless rotors. I'm sure these will last a while because they are heavy, they just won't look too pretty.

by:

Great part, good price, shipping fast, but the packing had a lot to be desired Hubs in the box. Packed in a larger box, By the time they got to me shipped UPS they were out of there boxes inside the bigger box. tho no damage to the parts lucky.

parts hubs work fine great parts thanks

by:

I am reviewing the hub, not the service. The hub fit as it should spun in a circle as it should and the trailer lasted one trip before the axle gfave up. So the hub met expectations for about 200 miles then was turned into a battleship or something.

Great hub. It fit as expected and hasnt given me any trouble. I would buy again.

by:

Exact part that was required. Had a failure on the road, and JerryB got my parts on order and underway on a SUNDAY afternoon!

by:

Good product, fast shipping and excellent customer service.

by:

I thought the shipping was fast, the new part was the same weight/quality as the original, and the new part fit perfectly. Pictures are of the old and new part.

by:

Great job etrailer !!! My local trailer shop tried to sell me a whole bunch of parts that I didn’t need. Went as far as telling me that the part I needed was discontinued and would have to redo both sides of my trailer at a cost of $800 . One call to etrailer and they had the part needed . $150 out the door. Big difference . Do yourself a favor use etrailer for all your trailer needs . Also the sales people were very polite and knowledgeable . Can’t say enough good things about etrailer .

by:

The only minor problem I am facing with this hub is that I cannot install a bearing protector - I have tried 3 different brands, and it seems that the inner diameter of the hub is a bit too tight for a protector to go in. I have installed plenty and know all the tricks, but this one is very frustrating. I may have to grind the protector rim slightly to get it started.

That is definitely frustrating, Brian. Before grinding down the cap, run some very fine sandpaper around the inside of the hub where said cap installs. The Dacromet coating may have some build up that is causing the caps to not fit. These are the pretty standard 1.98" bore, so I think this is what you are encountering. What kind of caps are you trying?

@LazerS Thank you, I will give that a try next. I thought of that, but it will involve removing the spindle nut and de-greasing the surface so I can properly get in there. I tried my new Bearing Buddy, an older but unused Reese model, and a no-name model I keep in my emergency kit. Brian

This was shipped fast and great product worked on my 2003 triton bass boat trailer perfect plus customer service was excellent Abby was really helpful will buy again if i have any issues
Thanks again

by:

Product may be fine. Problem is I ordered it next day shipping. Was shipped out ground and showed up 4 days later than expected. Carter never picked up or returned my calls. I missed my deadline and now I have a very unhappy customer. Extra shipping charge was refunded but would rather have received the item on time.

by:

The entire process from ordering to receiving the product was excellent. I received the Kodiak 10” hub/rotor assembly 3 days after ordering and it was a perfect fit for my Tie down boat trailer. I highly recommend E-trailer for your trailer related needs

by:

For those who might be in my spot, I have a 1999 Triton TR19 with a 1999 Triton factory trailer (EZLoader?) with a 3500 lb UFP axle and original disk brakes. It had one original hub and one older replacement hub. Neither are still available and used different inner bearing races. Replacement bearings and rotor hubs that are direct replacements are basically no longer readily available. The KHR10D rotor hubs and BK2-100 bearing kit fit perfectly and had the parts I needed (I did not use the seals.) The original rotors were 10.25" but still fit well with the brake pads. I matched the rotors up with Bearing Buddy BB60002 seal kits to work with my spindles. Now both sides are the same and I know what I have. Hope this helps those with old trailers like mine.

Thanks for sharing all the great information and the pictures. It definitely tough to match parts up on older trailers so your review will be helping a lot of people.

  • What Rotor Sizes Does Kodiak Disc Brake Caliper Fit
The Kodiak Disc Brake Caliper - Dacromet - 3,500 lbs to 6,000 lbs # KDBC225DAC is only designed to fit 10" or 12" rotors, and it looks like the Tie Down 46304 may be for 9.6" rotors, so the fit may be off due to that. There isn't any type of new mounting bracket available, and the best option we have is for you to get a new hub and rotor assembly, as we don't carry Tie Down parts and this may not be an exact fit otherwise. For that you need to know the weight rating of your axle, your...

We do carry a few 10" hub and rotors that use the L68149 inner and L44649 outer bearings. A good one is the Kodiak # KHR10D. This is a dacromet plated rotor that used the 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern. Bearings and seals are sold separately so you will want the bearing kits # BK2-100 as well. Keep in mind that rotors are not universal, and we would need to know what brand brake kit you have currently in order to recommend the compatible replacement.
