Could SumoSprings for Trailer Suspension be Trimmed Down

Updated 05/19/2025 | Published 05/14/2025

Question:

I am looking at the sumo helper springs for my travel trailer. I have the equalizer dual axle suspension. I also have the u-bolts exposed at the top of the axle. I only have 3 of distance from the u-bolt to the bottom of the frame. It seems the sumo spring is about 5 in length. Can these be cut down to fit my application? Is there a way to mount the sumo to the ubolt rather than the plate? If not do you have suggestions on what would work? Thanks

Hey Steve, the SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs # SS26MV could be trimmed down if needed to a shorter size but I would like to see a picture of your setup as I wonder if there's something else going on. Is your axle over or under the leaf springs?

My springs are mounted under the axles. For some reason I'm not able to add pictures to this reply. I can say that my TT fully loaded weight is 11,940. I think my axles are rated at 6000 each. I can see that the spring bolts have been hitting the frame at times. This trailer is only 1.5 years old. Any ideas? Thanks

@Steve Can you email me the pictures? [email protected] we still don't have ability to add pictures to comments. You actually have an underslung setup based on where your axle is so you'd need the part # SS33HR
