Recommended Circuit Breaker for Installing a Hydrastar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator

Updated 05/22/2025 | Published 05/14/2025

Question:

I am installing the Hydrastar HBA16 to convert to disc brakes with the kit I just received from you. It seems I ought to fuse the hot lead. What size fuse?

Hey Howard welcome back. Here are the parts you'll need and how to wire it up. Since your 12 volt accessory circuit is only rated for 20 amps you are going to want to run a 10 gauge wire like item # 10-1-1 (sold by the foot) from the positive battery post through a 40 amp circuit breaker like item # 9510 to the 12 volt accessory circuit so that you would have a circuit rated high enough for the item # HBA16.

I have linked a schematic below that will show you how to wire up the Hydrastar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator item # HBA16 that comes with the Hydrastar Disc Brake Kit item # HYD22FR you just purchased.

What kind of trailer do you have?
