Are Bearings and Grease Seal Standard on 3,500 lb Axles on 2005 Wells Cargo Landscape Trailer

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 02/19/2025

Question:

Are the bearings and grease seal standard size for all 3500 lbs axles? I have a 2005 Wells Cargo 20’ landscape trailer with tandem 3.5 K axles that are equipped with electric drum brakes. I am looking at purchasing the HYD22FR

Hey David! 99% of the time 3,500 lb axles use the standard bearing and grease seal combination. However, it wouldn't hurt to check just to be sure. If you check your axle tag you will find the manufacturer along with the serial number which can be used to identify the bearings. You could also pull the hubs off and check for part numbers/measure the inner diameter of the bearings.

More than likely the Hydrastar Disc Brake Kit w/ Actuator for Tandem Axle Trailers # HYD22FR will fit but, I would hate to have you order this and find out otherwise. If this was a newer trailer I would be highly confident that it fits. Since your trailer is from 2005 it is possible you have something that isn't standard on there. If you can add your axle tag information in the comments below I would be happy to identify it for you.

Hey David, did you get a chance to check your axle tag or measure the bearings on your Wells Cargo trailer? Knowing what you found would confirm if the Hydrastar disc brake kit fit as expected. Your update could make it easier for others with older 3.5K axles to verify their setup too.
