What Size Clevis Hook Works With OEM Puck Style Safety Chain Loops?
Updated 10/24/2025 | Published 04/08/2025 >
Question:
I need safety chain hooks for our gooseneck trailer. We bought a 2022 gmc 3500 with the factory GMC puck style gooseneck and now our safety chains will not clip into the huge safety pucks. Trailer has 5/16 chain and hooks on it now. What hooks will fit these?

Hello Justin, thanks for reaching out. I have heard of the 5/16" hooks being too small for the OEM puck style safety chain loops. We typically recommend going with at least a 3/8" hook, so the # TCSLIP-G70-10-L should definitely be big enough to work with the loops in your picture since they are 1/2"

Hey Justin, how did the 3/8 clevis hooks work with the factory GMC puck loops on your gooseneck setup? Your update could make it easier for others running into the same fit issue.
