Hub/Drums and Brake Assemblies to Use with Timbren Axle Less Kit HD For 3,500 lb Axles

Updated 04/08/2025 | Published 04/02/2025

Question:

I am interested in the Timbren 3500 lb HD axles, ASR35HDS05. I would like to know what parts you would recommend to make it a complete set, it needs electric brakes and drums / hubs, along with whatever else to make it a complete set.

Hey Michael, the correct hub/drum to use with the Timbren kit part # ASR35HDS05 would be the part # 8-201-5UC3-EZ which has a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern. Then for brakes you'd want the part # AKEBRK-7-SA.

The hubs mentioned have a 6 lug bolt pattern, do you have wheels and tires already?

I do have wheels and tires. But they are a 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern. I was originally thinking of upgrading to a 5200 lb axle set, but wasn't really wanting to have to replace my wheels and tires. So I was hoping the 3500 lb HD set would still be an upgrade but not require new wheels and tires. My RV is a 3500 lb RV, putting it is near the limits of a 3500 lb axle set I think. So I was trying to upgrade to give me more of a safety buffer. Also, we tend to take it down rough roads, often dirt roads (we pull it with a Jeep). If I have to replace my wheels and tires it seems smarter to go with the 5200 lb axle set.

@MichaelM So the HD 3,500 lb Timbren axle less kits actually use the 5,200 lb axle spindles so what that means is there isn't a 5 lug hub option that would fit them. So to go this option would require you to upgrade the wheels and tires too.

@JamesonC So, does that mean that if I go with the 5200 lb axles set the same brakes and hubs/drums would fit? Because if I do need to get new wheels and tires I might as well go with the higher capacity axle set. As mentioned, my RV trailer is right around 3500 lbs and we do tend to take the road less traveled even if it is dirt. So the next question is what is the difference between the TASR5200S03 5200 lb w/4" lift and the T99GR version for "Off-Road Tires"? Do they take the same brakes and hubs/drums as the other 5200 lb axles set?

@MichaelM Actually you'd want to go with the hub/drum part # AKHD-655-6-EZ-K instead as that Timbren kit requires a slight different grease seal. The brake assembly set is the same though. The off-road tires versions of these have the spindles set out a little further to allow for a wider tire to fit without hitting the frame of the trailer.
