What is the Measurement from the Ground to Top of Receiver on Draw-Tite DT62GR 2023 VW Tiguan?

Question:

I am wondering what the measurement from the top of the hitch opening to the ground is for the Hidden Hitch on a 2023 VW Tiguan R Line. Thanks!

Hello Tim,

We have not had the pleasure of installing the Hidden Hitch by Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - 2" # DT62GR on a 2023 VW Tiguan so I do not have the exact measurement that you are looking for, in my research I found that while the exact measurement can vary slightly depending on factors like tire size, suspension, and load, for a 2023 VW Tiguan R-Line with factory ride height, the top of the 2" receiver on the # DT62GR hitch typically sits about 13 to 14" off the ground once installed.

Is that measurement going to work for you? Do you have a steep driveway or something where clearance is an issue?

Hi Kate, Thanks so much for the research. I don't have anywhere in particular where I am concerned with clearance. I am deciding between the e-trailer hitch for my Tiguan or the Hidden Hitch and thought if clearance was much improved I would go with the Hidden Hitch option. But, it looks like it's just an inch or two higher than the e-trailer option at 12" from the top of the hitch. I am primarily using the hitch for a Thule T2 bike rack and my last car had a measurement of 15" with the e-trailer hitch so I wanted to make sure that I still would have enough ground clearance with the new setup if I went with the e-trailer hitch and lost a little clearance. Do you have any recommendation for the clearance when using the T2 rack? Thank You so much!

@Tim Ya Tim, you will be losing a couple of inches compared to your old setup. If you decide to go with our etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2" # e43ZR, you could use something like the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount with 2" Receiver for Bike Racks and Cargo Carriers - 7,500 lbs # D210 to raise the T2 bike rack up. I don't think you'll have clearance issues with the receiver being 12" off the ground, but if you ever find yourself in a tricky spot, like a steep incline, this would give you peace of mind that your rack won't scrape. I know you don’t need the ball mount portion on the bottom, but this setup is definitely more cost-effective. Most of our other high-low adapters are designed for flat towing behind RVs, so they’d push the rack much farther out from the vehicle. Personally, I really like the look of our etrailer hitches too. They have a clean, matte black powder coat finish that gives them a nice OEM appearance.
