Features to know about

A Rack That Looks as Good as Your Ride

StageTwo V-shaped trays

You have a nice-looking car and nice-looking bikes - you want a bike rack to match. The StageTwo is as premium as the bikes it carries. It's not some clunky add-on but a well-built rack that looks like it belongs on your vehicle. If the goal is to turn heads, the StageTwo delivers.

V-Shaped Trays Center Your Bikes Automatically

StageTwo V-shpaed trays

The V-shaped trays on the StageTwo aren't just for looks - they automatically center your tires, keeping your bikes steady while you load. No more awkward balancing acts - just roll them in, strap them down, and let the rack handle the rest.

Tool-Free Setup

Yakima StageTwo handle

Fumbling with wrenches and bolts can be a real pain. The locking hand-knob secures the rack in your hitch with a simple twist - no tools, no frustration, just a secure hold. Turn, lock, and roll out while everyone else is still digging through their toolbox.

Extra Security, Your Way

StageTwo V-shpaed trays

You're loaded up and ready to head out, but you need to eat or fuel up before you get to the trail. But leaving your bikes unattended? Not a chance, even with the built-in cable lock. The StageTwo has a dedicated lock loop, so you can add a high-quality bike lock for extra security. Now you can grab a burger or stop for supplies, knowing your bikes will be right where you left them when you're ready to roll again.

No Scratches, No Stress

StageTwo Wheel Hooks

Your bike isn't just a ride - it's your trusted companion on every adventure. The last thing it needs is a rack that clamps down on the frame and leaves it covered in scratches. The StageTwo secures your bikes by the front wheels, keeping carbon, custom, and full-suspension frames free from scuffs and pressure dents. Load up, lock in, and roll out knowing your bike stays safe and looking great.

Tilts with a Simple Squeeze

Yakima StageTwo handleYakima StageTwo Effortless tilting

Grabbing gear from the trunk shouldn't mean unloading all your bikes. With the StageTwo, a quick squeeze of the handle tilts the rack out of the way - no awkward balancing acts, no complicated levers. Need snacks? A jacket? No problem. Grab what you need and get back on the road.

Upgrade Your Ride with These Add-Ons

The StageTwo gets the job done on its own, but a couple key add-ons (each sold separately) can make your life easier and take your setup to the next level:

StageTwo loading ramp

Hoisting heavy e-bikes or fat bikes isn't for everyone. The loading ramp (Y39VR) lets you roll your bike into place, so you can save your energy for the ride and avoid putting unnecessary stress on your back.

StageTwo loading ramp

Most states require your license plate to be visible. The light and license plate kit (Y59VR) helps you stay legal while keeping your setup visible in low light. Plug it in, light it up, and make sure other drivers see you when it matters most.

Video Transcript for Yakima StageTwo Bike Rack for 2 Bikes Review - 2023 Nissan Kicks - Y78QD

Hi, everyone. I'm Evangeline right here at etrailer. Since every bike rack fits every vehicle differently, today we're gonna be focusing in on how the Yakima StageTwo fits on a 2023 Nissan Kicks. Now the StageTwo is available in an inch-and-a-quarter, two-inch version. Also, you can get it in black or in gray. So no matter what type of hitch receiver you may have on your Nissan Kicks, if you really want the StageTwo, the good news is there is a fit for you.

So how does this fit on the Kicks The first thing I like to look at is the tilt away function. This rack has a 60-pound per bike weight capacity, which could be a lot of weight coming down. One big thing is even though the Kicks is lower to the ground, while this tilts away pretty far down, it doesn't hit the ground. So your hands are not at risk. Next up over here, plenty of space between the car and the bike rack.

Look at that clearance. No worries there. If you're the type of person that likes to switch out your shoes because of your pedal style or you have your helmets and your backpacks in here, good news is you can get all of that without having to take your bikes off. Now bringing this back up, if you have this rack fully loaded, I do recommend just being prepped for that lift. Good news is once you're in place, snaps into place and you're ready to drive.

Now how is your bike loaded onto this rack You have two touch points. The first is gonna be your front wheel mount. The second is gonna be your rear wheel strap. This strap goes over your rim and secures in place. This does slide along for those different wheel bases, so that's pretty cool.

Coming over to the front, I recommend having one hand on your bike and then the other hand on your hook. This hook, by the way, has its own cable lock, so that way each bike can be secured. I'm gonna press this lever here, lift up on that hook, push that hook down, and now I can grab the bike and go. Something to note here is how high I am lifting the bike up to get it off the rack. Since the Kicks is a little bit closer to the ground, that wasn't as high of a lift. However, for those heavier bikes, you may wanna consider an add on ramp. Now for that bike rack, you can see it has a trace out. So you have those cradles for your front wheel or front tire. Super heavy duty, very sturdy. The Yakima StageTwo is definitely gonna be Yakima's tried, tested, heavy duty rack, but also still easy to use. Now this will have a little bit of length added to the back of your vehicle. So the good news is since you having Nissan Kicks, you already have a small car, so you have room to spare. Measuring from the bumper to the end of the rack, I have it at around 36 inches or three feet. That's a lot of length. Something to be mindful of for those small garages or small parking spots. You'll be able to see here the stadium seating where one tray is higher than the other. And that means if you have two similar shaped bikes, you're gonna have less work making sure that both of the bikes fit together. You are gonna have more clearance, is what I mean, between the handlebars. Now that height means that that last trace, it's 20, about 20 inches off the ground, which is pretty good, steep inclines. Even though the Kicks could potentially bottom out at the end, that height means it's a little bit higher up and it's also not too high where unless you have an extra heavy electric bike, then you should be good. Do be mindful that the weight on that bike rack may lower the end of your Kicks if it's not ready for it. That's why it's very important to double check your hitch capacity when you're loading it up with bikes. Now let's bring this up into the compact position. Measuring again from where we measured earlier, bumper to the end of the rack is now 11 inches. So big difference compared to when it was down. This is how it looked like to all the people behind you when you're driving around town. You have full visibility through that rear window. Full visibility of your taillights, not full visibility of your license plate. Your backup camera sits right where that bracket is, so you are gonna lose visibility out that camera. Please check your mirrors, middle and the side ones when you are backing up. So with all that being said, this is gonna be a really good bike rack for your bikes of different shapes and sizes. Whether you have a small road bike or an extra heavy electric bike, you're gonna be good to go. Be mindful of the height, you may have to lift up your bikes. Most times you'll be perfectly fine. But if you want that extra ramp to make life a little bit easier, it is available for the StageTwo here on our website. Double check your hitch receiver on your Kicks. If you don't yet have one, you can always find one here on our website or give us a call and we'll help you find the custom fits for you. Whether it's your hitch receiver or the bike rack that will go into the hitch, we got you for your journey. But today this is a look at the Yakima StageTwo Bike Rack on a 2023 Nissan Kicks.

Very pleased with the rack. Holds our e-bikes very well and able to use on our RV. Ordered on Thursday and got on Saturday

by:

It was so easy navigating the web site. The E Bike Trailer was shipped the same day that I ordered and it arrived in 2 days! The price point was great. Highly recommend

by:

I bought this because it is rated to withstand the back of an RV. Very well constructed.

by:

Awesome! We love it.

Heavy, but high quality and easy to use!

by:

Good design and quality of craftsmanship. The extras with the Yakima stage 2, are what make it worth the extra money, the tiered rails and each bike being locked with a cable inside the wheel holder. And a keyed alike lock for hitch provides security for the entire set up.

by:

Very heavy duty so works well with my relatively heavy e-bike. Only complaint is that it is heavy so installing and removing is a workout.

WARNING: Do not buy this rack if you have an RV and a super/heavy duty pickup truck with a commercial duty hitch and a class 3 adapter sleeve and you want to use both the RV and truck hitch.

This product is very well made and I like it. I want people to know that there is an inherent safety issue to be aware of.

This product is one of a very few that is rated for use on fifth wheels. The vast majority of fifth wheel owners have heavy duty/super duty pickup trucks to pull their fifth wheels. Therefore they probably have a 2" hitch on the fifth wheel and likely a commercial duty 2-1/2" hitch on their truck.

Therefore many customers will want to put the bike rack on their fifth wheel AND also on their trucks when disconnected.(particularly when camping, traveling and exploring). Some customers will certainly try to use the rack on the truck with a class 3 sleeve. This is dangerous and not permitted even though it is possible to install it in the truck hitch.

The rack can possibly be fixed to work on a HD hitch a couple of ways with a bolted connection or other methods, but in the current form it does not work and the rack could fall off. Any modifications to the rack will void the warranty.

The marketing materials should make this well known or Yakima should fix the design of the rack.

Also this rack requires the removal of the bike front fenders.

It's a very nice rack with robust build quality, and it is easy to use. My only complaint is that it does loosen up a bit in the hitch receiver after a couple of trips, so I recommend checking it regularly. I have it paired with the Stage 2 for carrying the family's mountain bikes.

by:

It's a very nice rack with robust build quality. Adding the Stage 2 is not all that simple but it is solid. The total length of both racks looks a bit shocking at first but we haven't had any issues during travel. The rack doesn't totally block my tail lights but I added a flashing light at the release handle and some reflective stickers facing rearward on the platforms for extra safety (a tail light accessory is available).

by:

Needed a quick and easy way to take a couple of bikes to a week-long camping trip. This rack was easy to use, I loved that I didn't need a separate hitch pin. It was a bit heavy when installing it but it did the job just great.
The latch to tilt the rack up and down could be a bit tough to actually squeeze - but I figured out that if you sort of lifted up on the rack at the same time you squeeze the latch, then it worked no problem.

Usefulness: *****

Portability: *****

Ease of Use: **** - latch for tilt function could be a bit temperamental until you figured out to lift first.
