Recommended Tire Chains For 2024 Honda HR-V Sport With 225/55-18 Tires

Question:

I have a 2024 Honda HR-V Sport with 225/55/R18 tires. The owners manual states that chains or cables are not recommended. However, I am planning a trip to Mammoth Lakes and may need to use traction devices in snowy conditions. Are there any snow chains suitable for my HR-V, or are there alternative products you would recommend?

Hey Sean, thanks for reaching out. I was up in Mammoth last July and it was a great time. I have family not too far from there so I have been up to that area and all over the eastern Sierra many times. Only made it up there once in the winter though, and fortunately we did not need to use chains. Sounds like they have been getting a good amount of snow in Mammoth this winter though.

Anyway, as far as tire chains, we do offer chains that will fit the 225/55-18 tires. Generally when an owners manual discourages the use of chains, it is because of limited clearance or interference on the inside of the tires, and we always recommend doing what the owners manual says to do.

That said, we do offer one set of chains that does not create any interference behind the wheel, the Konig K-Summit Tire Chains # TH02230K45. The chains attach to the wheel lug, so they can maintain a grip on the tire without any chain links behind the tire. This design also offers protection you rims, since no part of the chain actually contact the wheel. They also provide superior traction compared to the typical ladder-style chains. With proper usage and care, these chains can last many years. They come with a 5-year warranty which really sets them apart from other chain brands, which often offer only a 90-day warranty.
