What Air Lift Spacer to Use with 3" Lifted 2017 Toyota Tacoma

Updated 03/26/2025 | Published 03/08/2025

Question:

I am wanting to order the airlift 5000 for my 2017 Toyota Tacoma. I have a canopy and a swingout tire carrier so I am sagging with a 3 inch lift. Should the airlift 5000 itself be okay or a 2 inch spacer would be needed. If able to, do you have the measurements of the airlift 5000 height so I can make some measurements. With the 3 inch lift and the weight bringing it down maybe an inch I’d say 2 inches would be perfect. What y’all think? Thanks!!

Hey Kye, thanks for reaching out!

Not all lift kits are made equal, so in order to determine what (or if) you need spacers with the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs # AL49DQ you'll need to either reach out to the company that made the lift kit for your 2017 Toyota Tacoma and see how much the distance from the frame to the axle was increased, or you can measure between the mounting points on your Tacoma yourself and see what the difference is.

The design height of the air bag kit that fits your Tacoma is 5-1/2" according to Air Lift so if you measure at least 7-1/2" when your Tacoma is unloaded and parked level, then the 2" Spacer Kit # AL52420 is what you need.

I've attached a clip from the Air Lift website that also explains this for your reference. If you have any other questions, please let me know and I'd be more than happy to continue helping you figure this out!

I just measured the area right above the leaf spprings to the contact point on the frame and it is only 6 inch gap. Due to my truck having a swingout tire carrier and canopy this is probably the outcome. So even though I have a 3 inch lift. Sounds like I would only need the 2 inch spacer matched with the airbag 5000.

@KyeL I agree with you - since you already have some stuff weighing down the back of your Tacoma that's probably why it's already sitting lower.

The bags and spacer work perfectly although the u bolts for the bags itself are short about an inch and a quarter.. do you have any longer ones for the lifted vehicles ? I am at the moment trying to find a set at local stores

@Kye Hmm, that's interesting. I didn't realize the lifted vehicles would require a longer U-Bolt, and Air Lift unfortunately doesn't have a kit made for lifted vehicles like that. What lift kit do you have on your Tacoma? I believe they have different designs which is why Air Lift kind of leaves it up to the end user to line everything up.
