Question:
Do all disc brake conversions convert bolt patterns as well? My factory bolt pattern is I believe 6 on 5 1/2 but 6 lug for sure. It’s a 2016 Forrest River surveyor 245BHS bumper pull trailer. Not a big deal if that’s the case just would need to buy a new set of wheels ans well, but I want to insure I’d be buying the correct kit before placing the order. . I’m highly motivated to do this conversion so any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you. Lastly is it possibly to buy a spare left and right caliper and say the longest brake hose to cover my bases to carry for a spare for those unexpected issues that could be repaired easily on a long trip or whatnot.

Hello Keith, thanks for reaching out. I can definitely help you with a disc brake conversion. You should be able to stick with the 6 on 5-1/2" wheels. This is the standard 6 lug pattern so it is very common.
I can recommend parts for you, but first I will need a bit more info on your trailer. Specifically I will need to know your axle weight capacity, and bearing sizes. The best way to find this out will be to pull a hub and remove the bearings. Each bearing will have a number stamped on the edge, or you can measure the ID with a micrometer. Then I can take that info and make sure you get the correct hubs.
The best thing to do here will be to go with an electric over hydraulic braking system. The Hydrastar Electric-Hydraulic Actuator w/ Line Kit for Disc Brakes # CAR-HBA16-2 is a great starting point for that. It comes with the EOH actuator, breakaway kit and brake lines. It comes with a 15' main line so please make sure this is appropriate for your trailer.
Then you will also need an EOH compatible brake controller if your tow vehicle. Most aftermarket controllers, like the Tekonsha P3 # 90195 are OEH compatible, but there are some factory controllers that are not compatible. Do you already have a brake controller?
Then we just need to get you a hub/rotor/caliper kit. There should be replacement calipers and brake lines available if you want to keep some spares. Let me know that axle capacity and bearing info and we can get that taken care of.
We wrote a guide on adding EOH brakes to a trailer, and you will find it linked below. Should be a helpful resource for you.
I am here to help too. Leave a reply below and I will get back to you.

Hey Keith, were you able to check your axle capacity and bearing sizes for the disc brake conversion on your Surveyor trailer? Once you had that info, did the Hydrastar actuator and Tekonsha controller setup look like a good fit? Your update could make it easier for others planning the same upgrade.
