Does etrailer Hitch e83ZR Obstruct Handfree Liftgate Sensor On 2025 Subaru Forester Touring

Question:

I plan to buy a trailer for my new 2025 Subaru Forester Touring to replace the trailer on my 2021 Forester. In watching your installation video I do not see any discussion on how to remove or disable the kick open function sensor which will be blocked by the trailer hitch. Please advise.

Hello Donald, thanks for reaching out, and congrats on the new Subaru. The hitches we offer for the 2025 Subaru Forester like the etrailer # e83ZR do not require deactivation of the handsfree liftgate sensor. The hitch receiver does sit near the sensor, but the sensor will still work. You will likely just need to waive your foot on either side of the receiver to get it to activate. Sometimes hitch mounted accessories like a bike rack can confuse the backup sensor, but the liftgate sensor will still function. It will just work a little differently is all.
