Will Rock Tamers Fit Shocker Hitch HD Air Cushioned 2-Ball Mount

Updated 11/03/2025 | Published 01/21/2025

Question:

Looking to get the shocker hitch with the air bag, could I mount a rock tamer on the hitch and still use the airbag? I would be able to modify the Rock tamer a little bit if it would partially interfere with the shocker hitch. Thanks

Hi Lance; the Rock Tamers # ERT00108 are not compatible with the Shocker Hitch HD Air Cushioned 2-Ball Mount # SHK95VR. The Rock Tamers require that 1" of clearance as seen in the picture below. I attached another picture showing what it looks like when you have the right air pressure in the bag.

As you can see, that bolt will stick out and interfere with the collar that wraps around the shank. The angled portion on the arm for the air bag also would not allow for fitment. You could try to modify the Rock Tamers so they would fit but that isn't something I can recommend. Doing so would also void the warranty.

Are the Rock Tamers a must have for your setup? If so, I would consider the Gen-Y Torsion 2-Ball Mount # 325-GH-1024 or # 325-GH-1224 as an alternative. The # 325-GH-1024 has a gross towing weight of 10,000 lbs and is designed for tongue weights ranging from 500-1,100 lbs. The # 325-GH-1224 has a gross towing weight of 12,000 (2" ball) or 16,000 lbs (2-5/16" ball) and is designed for 1,200-1,700 lbs of tongue weight.

Hey Lance, what did you end up going with for your hitch setup after learning the Rock Tamers wouldn’t fit the Shocker Hitch? Knowing which route worked best could really help others trying to pair mud flaps with an air-cushioned hitch.
