Question:

Hello, I currently have a 13,500 BTU Advent AC installed in the bedroom of my 2019 Keystone Fuzion 410 with an InCommand control system. I would like to replace it with a Penguin II AC/Heat Pump. Is this possible and what additional interface to the InCommand controller, if any, would be needed? Best regards

Hey Pete,

The Dometic Penguin II # DMC26ZR would require the # DMC32RR in order to communicate with the iN-Command system. This will need to be installed inside of the # DMC26ZR so you'll have a little bit of work to do prior to getting the new unit up on the roof. The shroud will need to be removed and then so will the foam cover at the front of the unit. I've attached pictures and steps from the installation manual below to help walk you through the process, but if you still have questions just let me know.

Kevin, Thanks for your response. I have the DMC32RR and the Penguin II wiring is as shown for the 6519 DMC26ZR. I have the unit installed and the AC works as it should. There are two blue wires labeled as “furnace” (Y3 & Y4 on the 6519 schematic) that I do not know where to connect. Any ideas? Appreciate your help. Best regards, Pete

@PeteS Your furnace is most likely already hooked up to the iN-Command system already, right? If so the furnace is already being powered/controlled by that system and wouldn't need to connect to the rooftop unit in order to function. The controller for the # DMC26ZR is built into it instead of being built into the air distribution box. Without the iN-Command system you would normally need to connect this controller to the furnace in order for it turn it on/off when the temperature triggers your settings. I would just cap the wires off separately with some electric tape incase you ever need to use them in the future.

@KevinC , Thanks. I will reprogram the InCommand to control the heat pump and see if it works. Best regards, Pete

@PeteS What is the temperature by you? If it's in the mid-30's or lower the heat pump is not going to function. This could be just an iN-Command issue, but since it's an OEM only thing we don't have much experience with it to troubleshoot as extensively as ASA Electronics could. I would give them a call and see what they say about heat pumps. If they say it should be working or go through setting it up and it still isn't working then you would need to connect a thermostat # DMC23ZR directly to the unit and try to turn on the heat pump. If it doesn't work then we know the board inside of the unit is bad and would need to be replaced.
