Should Kenda 4.80-12 Tires be the Same Height

Updated 11/17/2025 | Published 12/24/2024

Question:

Hello, I need a spare tire for my trailer, a Malone micro sport. It comes with loadstar 4.80x12 tires. I purchased a spare via Amazon, which has the same specs per the sidewall but is noticeable an inch or 3/4 taller when put beside one of the trailer tires that are on the trailer. The only difference I can see is the 3-digit number after the k353 below the tire specs. The tires on the trailer say k353-115 and the spare says k353-132 forget exact number. Your photo of this tire says k353-123, different them all of mine. Is this number indicative of any sizing info or no? Thanks for the help!

Hey Justin!

I'm not sure what those last 3 digits are for, but I'm thinking it has to do something with the assembly line they're made on or who it was that inspected them because the Combo # AM30590 you're looking at uses the tire # AM10060 and that last digit is different for each of them as well.

There might be slight height variances from manufacturer to manufacturer, but 4.80-12 tires should have really similar dimensions across the board. Tires that have the same size stamped in their sidewall from the same manufacturer will be an exact match when it comes to dimensions. The only thing I can think that might be different is if you have tires with different load ratings and PSI requirements on the sidewall. If you have different load ratings then that would explain some difference in height.

If you can shoot me photos of all info on the sidewalls of your tires I'd be more than happy to look into this further if you need me to!

Hey Justin, did you find out if the height difference on your Malone MicroSport trailer tires was due to the load rating or PSI? Knowing what you discovered could help others trying to match a spare for the same trailer.
