Availability Of Replacement Cable For Demco Air Force One Brake System

Updated 12/04/2024 | Published 12/03/2024

Question:

Hello etrailer. I have the Airforce one brake system and the cable to the brake pedal cylinder broke again. I bought a new cylinder here a couple years ago and now I need another one. Are these cables a bad actor, or is it just me? I am a technician and installed the new cable plus prevously the the whole system three times on different vehicles with no problems. Can you send me the parts to fix this thing? Is the cable replaceable? Or do I have to change the whole cylinder again? Please advise. 2016 Subaru Forester 6 speed manual transmision.

Hey Larry, thanks for reaching out. The cable breaking is certainly not a common issue with the Air Force One brake system. If it keeps breaking that makes me suspect the cable may be mounted at the improper angle, or it is overtightened in the anchor, so those are both things you will want to check. For now you will need a new cable, but the good news is they are available, replaceable and they are not terribly expensive. You will need the following:

- Replacement Cylinder Cable for Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo and Air Force One Braking Systems # DM56VR

I have also linked an install video for you below that shows how to replace the cable.

Jesse, is there a video on how to anchor the cable to firewall. I'm wondering about cable slack and maximum allowed cable angle? Thanks, Larry

@Larry Doesn't look like we have a video showing that so the best resources I have for that is the instruction manual in the link below. The instructions for the cable start on page 23. According the their literature, cable breakage can ONLY occur if there is an improper angle or if the cable is overtightened in the anchor so that is definitely something to look at. https://cdn.demco-products.com/documents/Manuals/TB20050.pdf
