What Does the 12v Power Wire to the Battery Do for the Curt Wiring Harness on a 2017 Grand Cherokee?

I’m a bit confused about why the C62VR needs. Power wire running to the battery? Doesn’t it just pick up power from the light connections?

No, it gets the signals from your Jeep's tail lights. The 12v power wire on the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness item # C62VR is what powers the converter which is what tells the trailer to activate the tail lights. This has to be wired directly to the battery in your 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
