Recommended Vent Sealant for a 2010 Forest River R-Pod Travel Trailer

Updated 12/15/2025 | Published 11/21/2024

Question:

Hello! I recently purchased a 2010 Forest River Rpod and it needs a bit of work. The biggest thing Im not sure of at the moment is what sealant to use around the vent fan and exhaust on the roof. It is cracked now so I assume Ill need to pry it all up and lay more down but Im not sure if I should go with marine sealant, dicor, silicone, or liquid rubber. Not sure what originally came on it either since its so old. I live in Texas so UV is a real big concern.

Hey Ruth, you're correct you are going to need to rip up that old stuff before you put some new sealant down. So since you live in Texas, I'd recommend going with the TremPro 645 Silicone All Purpose Sealant for RVs and Trailers # FAS59FR.

This stuff works best in temps above 40 degrees, is clear in color so it'll match whatever painted surface you apply it to, and can easily be installed using a caulking gun # PTW54295.

Keep in mind as well that this is only a 10 oz bottle considering you're only needing to seal a couple of small(ish) vent holes. The Alpha Systems 8011 Adhesive for RV Roofs # AL27CV you were looking at would be what you'd want if you were trying to replace your entire roof.

Hey Ruth, how did things go with sealing the vent fan and exhaust on your Rpod roof using the TremPro 645 silicone? Your update could make it easier for others dealing with cracked sealant in hot, sunny climates.
