Leaf Springs Equilizers, Shackle Straps, Wet Bolts, U-Bolts for 6K Axle on 2012 Prime Time 5th Wheel

Updated 12/15/2025 | Published 11/20/2024

Question:

Trying to determine appropriate leaf spring replacements for 2012 Prime Time Crusader 5th wheel. Axles are 6000lb. Eye to eye C measurement is 26 inches. Eye to center measurement B is 13.5 inches. 5 leaf, 1.75 inches wide. Also, the center hanger is not like any pictured on your site. It has a cylindrical bushing which is cracked and worn. Need an appropriate replacement or equivalent. Can provide pictures if you send me an e-mail. Dont have model number on springs, but Axles are Dexter 3231307. Thanks.

Hello Steve.

Thank you for emailing me the picture of your suspension, as they are always most helpful. Leaf springs have the tendency to stretch out over time which does not give us an accurate measurement, so with your leaf springs measuring at 26" eye to eye I suggest you go with our 5-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 6,000-lb Trailer Axles - 25-1/4" Long # e34SR.

After taking a close look at the picture you were able to email me it looks like you are referring to the equalizer, looks like the rubber core on yours is starting to crack. I have 2 options for you:

- The first option is going to come with new equalizers, shackle straps (measuring 2 1/4" hole to hole), wet bolts, lock nuts, and bronze bushings # K71-652-00. From your picture it looks like your shackle straps are in pretty good shape, but it never hurts to have these extra parts on the road if you just need to change out the equalizers. You also want to measure your equalizers to make sure they are about 5 3/4" (I have attached an image to reference).

- Second option is the equalizers only # K71-654-00

When replacing your leaf springs it is always recommended to change the U-Bolts as well as they too stretch over time, for new U-bolt kits you want # CE23003. These kits are per axle, so you will need 2 sets.

One last thing, when changing the leaf springs it is best to change them all out, or at the very least the 2 using the same axle, that way you will not have uneven wear on your trailer. If any of the measurements do not add up after you measure your current stuff, please let me know what the measurements are that you came up with. There isn't a standard when it comes to trailer suspension, so we just want to get you as close as possible to the parts that you are replacing.

Hey Steve, how did the new 5-leaf springs and equalizer setup work out on your Crusader? Did the fit and ride height end up matching what you needed? Your update could make it easier for others replacing similar Dexter axle parts.
