Question:
How do you mount the strap and can you use any 2, strap?

Hey Dennis,
The Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL15403 has slots in the reel side plates for a bolt to slip through and the strap to be sewn around. You'd want to use a 3/8" x 3-1/4" long bolt with a locknut and sew a loop into the end of the strap to slip over that bolt. Dutton-Lainson recommends using a 2" strap with a hook with both components having a 1.5 times capacity of the winch. We offer the # DL24249 which would exceed these requirements and comes with mounting hardware.
I've attached a short video below where you can see how AJ installs this strap on a similar boat winch.

Hey Dennis, how did things go mounting the strap on your Dutton-Lainson hand winch? Did the 2-inch strap with the safety hook fit the way you needed? Your update could make it easier for the next person setting up the same winch.
