Scissor Stabilizer Jack Screws Will Not Turn

Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 10/01/2024

Question:

Hi, we recently purchased a 2014 E-450 Class C and am having trouble with the jacks near the bumper. I tried to bring down the stabilizing scissors, but the screws wont turn, even after using rust lube. Any thoughts on what might be causing this issue? There isnt a lock mechanism on them is there? Because they dont turn. Thanks!

Hello Tino, thanks for reaching out. Are you able to turn the handle for the jack at all? Or is the whole thing locked up? If the handle turns but the jack does not move, it could be the nut on the other side is stripped and is not allowing the jack to go up or down. If the main screw isn't turning, it could be the screw has somehow disconnected from the screw. There is no lock mechanism for these jacks. It could be they are just too rusty/corroded, and they seized up. Either way, it sounds like the jack is going to need to be replaced. For that I recommend the Scissor Stabilizer Jack # TJSC-24. This is a 2,500 lb capacity jack with 18-3/4" of travel. If you need a higher capacity than that, use the Lippert Scissor Jack # LC285325 which is 5,000 lb rated.

Hey Tino, how did things go with replacing the stabilizer jacks on your E-450? Were you able to get the new ones working smoothly? Your update could make it easier for the next person with the same issue.
