Could Wiring of Blue Ox 7-Way to 6-Way be Opened Up and Changed

Published 09/09/2024

Question:

I am replacing my original (9 years old) Blue Ox Electrical Cable connector that runs between our motorhome and our towed 2018 Ford Expedition. After the initial installation of our air Force One proportional braking system for a second towed car (which was performed and videoed at eTrailer) and the Blue Ox towbar / baseplate installation performed by our RV dealer, several changes were made to the wiring harness by the dealership... There is no record of what wires were changed, or if they were changed on the motorhome side going into the male plug or in the wiring harness going into the female plug. So, my questions are: Can the new connecting cable part # BX 88206, (which is advertised as being "sealed" on both ends), be opened up IF I need to change the wires to different blade assignments because of the previous modifications. If it can be opened, how do I do it? After making any modifications to the wire / blade assignment and I reassemble the plug, will it still be sealed? Thank you in advance for your expert help, Joe

Hey Joe, if for some reason you needed a different pin out than what the Blue Ox Coiled Cord part # BX88206 has it is going to be much easier and smarter to change the pin out of the female connectors this plugs into than trying to open up the wiring of the coiled wire. Not only would it be challenging to open up the wiring but it wouldn't be possible to effectively seal it after the fact.

Jameson, Thank you for your prompt response. I had called in to etrailer earlier and the person who answered said rewireing the 7 way plug was not only possible but easy. She said she found that information in the Q & A on the product page. It pays to get a second opinion. Thanks, Joe V (St Charles, MO)
