Hitch Extender For Use With Swagman E-Spec Bike Rack

Updated 09/03/2024 | Published 09/02/2024

Question:

Having trouble finding bike rack for travel trailer that will fit our 2 ebikes. Our travel trailer has a factory installed on chassis 2inch receiver hitch rated for 300 lbs. It is recessed 2 3/4inch behind travel trailer wall. Most bike racks tilt bikes back slightly. Our handlebars are 13inch from center so either dont fit or are touching. Would probably need 8inch hitch extender for e-spec but then weight capacity is reduced? Are there any bike racks with longer shafts that meet all other requirements? Our bikes w/o batteries weigh 42 and 44lbs. Thank you, Deb

Hey Deb,

There is not a bike rack rated for use with travel trailers that has the length you need, so you will need the extender you mentioned. It does halve the rating of your hitch, and since it's rated for 300 lbs tongue weight, that will mean it's capacity will be lowered to 150 lbs. That's okay though because the total weight of the rack and your bikes will be less than that. So here's what you can use:

- Swagman E-Spec Bike Rack # S94FR

- RockyMounts Hitch Extender w/ Hitch Pin and Lock - 2" Hitches - 8" Long # RKY10008

The E-Spec weighs 60 lbs and with your bikes weighing 86 lbs without the batteries you're under the 150 lb limit.
