Recommended T-Slot Crossbar Adapter Kit for Malone FoldAway-5 Kayak Carrier

Updated 04/09/2025 | Published 08/13/2024

Question:

I have two racks, a Front Runner brand rack with aero bars and a fabricated 8020 series 40 ladder rack. Both have T-slots would this work with either or both?

Hey Jim! It depends on how wide the t-slots are on your racks. We do not offer either of those so the best I can do is tell you that the T-Slot Crossbar Adapter Kit for Malone FoldAway-5 Kayak Carrier item # MAL27AR fits t-slots that are 1/4" x 13/16" with the top opening measuring 7/16".

Adapter kit was purchased. Kit marries perfectly to the Malone kayak carrier with the included hardware as advertised. The rest of the kit was spare parts, not compatible with either the 8020 (used in racks such as Prinsu, Hood, Victory 4x4, Extrusion Overland, Sherpa) or Frontrunner (a worldwide overland outfitter). I was able to mount it to the Frontrunner bars using regular 5/16" or 8mm bolts, your choice as both work, and created a 3/16" riser for the adapter plate hardware to clear the wider width of the crossbars. I also run a soft top, so having no protruding hardware underneath was the goal, and now I'm good to go!

@JerredH, A new heads-up: I just purchased a Malone Fold-away J (2/3 of the FoldAway-5) and tried to transfer two of the existing plates to it, only to find out the holes didn't line up. Went to another store with older stock and they fit fine, so it looks like Malone's molds have stretched about 1/8". You may want to "slot" a couple holes on future plates to compensate.
