Do I Need to Lift the Trailer to Replace a U-Bolt Plate

Question:
I discovered the top u bolt plate on my 5th wheel was bent. Do I need to take the weight off that side before I replace the u bolts? Or can I just take the old ones off and install new ones? Thank you,
