Can 5,000 Watt Generator Power Two 13.5k BTU RV AC Unit

Question:
I am upgrading my RV dual AC from 11k BTU units to 13.5k BTU units. The RV is 50 amp shore power and an Onan 5k Genny with 2 30 amp circuits. Is the Genny big enough to run both 13.5k AC units at the same time?

Hey Aloysius, yeah a 5,000 watt generator should have no problem with two 13.5k btu AC units but I would go with units that have start capacitors like the Advent Air part # ACM135CH. The start capacitor allows the startup amperage required to fire up the unit to be quite a bit lower.

Hey Aloysius, how did things go with the two 13.5k BTU AC units and your 5,000-watt generator? Did the setup run smoothly with the start capacitors? Your update could make it easier for the next person planning a similar upgrade.
